Council President Candidate Statement – Tony Giangiordano (R)

I support the vision and priorities of the 3P initiative to ensure Perryman’s future is built around clean water, safe neighborhoods, protected landscapes, strong community values, and responsible growth. Perryman has too often carried the burden of industrial growth without receiving the same level of environmental protection, infrastructure investment, recreational opportunities, and community-focused planning which is seen elsewhere in Harford County. Future decisions must focus on protecting residents, preserving natural resources, and strengthening the community for future generations.

Throughout my time on the County Council, I have consistently supported community-centered development and responsible planning that protects neighborhoods and quality of life. I was one of the leading voices, along with two of my colleagues, in efforts to limit the size of warehouse and distribution centers in Harford County by supporting restrictions on facilities larger than 250,000 square feet. Harford County should not become overrun with mega warehouse projects that increase traffic congestion, strain infrastructure and emergency services, and threaten surrounding communities and environmental resources.

I also successfully introduced and passed amendments restricting inappropriate apartment development along the Route 1 corridor in Fallston and Hickory because growth must fit the character of the community and not overwhelm infrastructure or public services. I have supported infrastructure improvements, including the paving of Route 1 in Bel Air from Bond Street to Route 24, helping improve safety and transportation for residents and businesses.

I support protecting Perryman’s natural resources, wildlife habitats, shoreline, and green spaces while increasing access to parks, recreation, and waterways. Perryman deserves safe and accessible recreational opportunities enjoyed elsewhere in Harford County. Development decisions must also carefully consider impacts on the wellhead areas and groundwater resources that supply drinking water to Harford County residents, along with impacts on stormwater runoff, environmental sustainability, and public health.

Perryman’s rich history and cultural heritage should also be preserved and promoted. From early settlement and agriculture to Aberdeen Proving Ground and the Chesapeake Bay, Perryman has played an important role in Harford County’s history that deserves recognition and protection from overdevelopment.

As a business owner for over 35 years, I understand the importance of economic development and job creation. However, growth must coexist with environmental stewardship, public safety, infrastructure planning, and community well-being. Residents deserve a meaningful voice in the planning process, and county government must work collaboratively with the community to ensure thoughtful and sustainable development.

If elected Council President, I will continue supporting policies that preserve Harford County’s remaining green spaces, protect environmental resources, strengthen infrastructure and public safety, and balance economic opportunity with quality of life for Perryman and all of Harford County.
